About the Bridgeton Area Brothers United (BABU)
Coming Together and Committing to Making a Difference in Bridgeton
The Bridgeton Area Brothers United (BABU) was established following several casual zoom meetings by five guys/brothers who met during the 2020 COVID- 19 Pandemic. During these meetings, we talked about our college experience, life and career progression, and a new meaning and purpose for life since leaving the south side of Bridgeton in 1977.
After sharing our exciting childhood, daring high school experiences, participating in competitive sports, and fun courtship memories from growing up in Bridgeton, the five brothers’ meetings expanded to include fifteen (15) brothers, who made the commitment to form the Bridgeton Area Brothers United (BABU).
On December 23, 2020, Bridgeton Area Brothers United (BABU) was officially registered as a 501, ©3 non-profit organization, and a New Jersey non-profit corporation.
Today, the fifteen (15) board members live in various cities and regions throughout the United States and meet via zoom on the second Thursday of each month to strive to fulfill its vision and mission for the Bridgeton community.

Coming from Humbling Experiences Like You
We, the Bridgeton Area Brothers United (BABU), consist of fifteen (15) board members who were born in Bridgeton and from other areas of Cumberland County.
From the early 1960’s to the mid-1980’s, BABU board members lived and grew up competing against each other in baseball, basketball, football, wrestling, track and field. The south side neighborhood rivalries, consisting of the Maple and Birch Street Projects versus Pamphylia Street, or the Amity Height Project or the Hill, kept us in check as we battled in football without shoulder and knee pads, mouth guards, or helmets. Those competitive games prepared us at an early age to compete, set goals, exercise patience, decision making, teamwork, leadership, and so many more qualities that propelled us through and beyond college, military service, and professional careers of all types.
We were blessed by God for the opportunity to grow up in Bridgeton and gain from many of our life experiences that made us successful men with a common goal of giving our time, money, resources, and supporting and aiding the youth, Bridgeton and area communities to flourish and prosper.
